A message from the Water For People Committee:

Don’t delay and miss this opportunity to double your Water For People donation.

Rosenthal Million Dollar Challenge

Water For People is pleased to announce a special, limited opportunity for you to double the impact of your support. Every donation received until November 30, 2008, will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $500,000. The goal: $1 million.

New Orleans philanthropists, Stephen and Sandy Rosenthal, have committed to make a $500,000 gift, the largest donation ever pledged to Water For People from a family. But there’s a catch. The Rosenthals want to leverage their generous gift and inspire others to contribute to raise a total of $1 million. It’s up to all of us to maximize this opportunity.

"We are deeply committed to Water For People’s mission and vision and feel fortunate to be a part of an organization that is making such a fundamental difference in people’s lives. We invite you to join us in this campaign to make clean water and adequate sanitation a reality for thousands of people in need. Together, we can create innovative and sustainable change."

~Stephen and Sandy Rosenthal

Your Virginia Water For People Committee will be submitting our annual donation before this November 30th deadline. You can double your donation by adding it to the funds your WFP Committee has raised already this year. Make your donation payable to VA-AWWA with "WFP Donation" indicated in the memo and send to the Virginia Section, PO Box 55420, Virginia Beach, VA 23471.

For questions about this opportunity or Water For People, please don’t hesitate to contact your WFP Committee Chair, Chip England, \n eng18@co.henrico.va.us This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , 804-527-0257.

Virginia ENERGY STAR Sales Tax Holiday Set for October 10-13

The City of Alexandria invites residents to take advantage of the second annual ENERGY STAR Sales Tax Holiday, scheduled for October 10-13. During the four-day sales tax holiday, Virginians will be exempt from paying the state and local sales tax (amounting to a savings of approximately 5%) on qualified products costing $2,500 or less. Qualified ENERGY STAR and WaterSense products include the following:

  • Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs)
  • Ceiling fans
  • Clothes washers
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Dishwashers
  • Programmable thermostats
  • Refrigerators
